A native Capetonian, Faith47 uses her talents to educate, uplift and inspire the people of South Africa

Working in both the community and commercial fields, Faith47 is undoubtedly one of the most talented artists on the global graffiti scene, giving a uniquely feminine touch to this distinctly urban style.
Working in diverse mediums such as aerosol, photography, digital illustration and canvas, she is strongly involved in the South African social and political scene, also forming part of the Red Bull StreetStyle crew that visited local schools in 2005.
"As an artist, Africa's culture and people inspire me - her cities, towns and her politics. My roots are in Africa and my inspiration and passion comes from here" she says.

Faith has also worked extensively in the commercial field, designing campaigns and illustration work for Nike, X-Box, National Geographic and Dickies to name a few.
She has recently opened a design studio with Mike Saal, called Mattblack which showcases talented design and illustration artists from the Cape Town area.

South African based artist faith47 released this video as part of her the restless debt of third world beauty project. It was directed by Rowan Pybus with music by Fletcher.

"Poignant, beautiful, and inspiring, this short film delves straight into the heart of South Africa and the artistry that beautifies its streets, cities, and slums."

"The law should recognise the positive side of graffiti and encourage this element. Legal walls should be allocated for younger writers to be able to practise on and progress their own style"

LA’s revolving outdoor art gallery that is the UNDEFEATED BILLBOARD PROJECT on LaBrea Ave features new work this month by none other than the local art collective/”social club” GENTS OF DESIRE, aka: Jonathan Bleser (FINN), and Alexis Ross (DOOM). Commemorating the late underground Hip-Hop legend MIXMASTER SPADE who died in a motorcycle accident in 2005, the billboard puts their trademark old school style front and center on one of Hollywood’s most heavily trafficked corridors.

To commemorate the piece, NIKE and UNDFTD have teamed up to throw a charity reception on Sunday, June 29th benefiting the East LA Community Youth Center. The throwdown kicks off behind the UNDFTD shop (home of a new Gents mural) at 112 1/2 LaBrea at 5pm and the price of admission is a pair of fresh, unworn kix which go directly to the charity. Nike will match the number of shoes donated at the event and UNDFTD will bestow a pair of new slides to the dude who shows up looking best in his old lady’s pants. And for you shopaholics, UNDFTD will be dropping an unstoppable “Solid Gold” Gents collab T-Shirt.

While others took to the streets with machetes and other crude weapons to vent their anger, Solomon or 'Solo 7' as he is popularly known, went out with the only thing he knew how to use- his paint brush.

As G8 leaders prepare for their annual Summit in Japan in two weeks time, we need to tell them that silence about Darfur at the Summit is not an option. Join activists around the world in urging the G-8 leaders to take a strong stand—including a promise to act—for peace in Darfur at this year's Summit. Read letter from 50 human rights groups to G-8 leaders.

Full Petition Text: To:

Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Canada
President Nicolas Sarkozy, France
Chancellor Angela Merkel, Germany
Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, Italy
Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, Japan
President Dmitry Medvedev, Russian Federation
Prime Minister Gordon Brown, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
President George W. Bush, United States of America

Your Excellencies,

This year's G8 Summit in Hokkaido Japan comes at a particularly perilous moment for both the people of Darfur and the whole of Sudan. Intensified violence in Darfur has resulted in more death and displacement. Recent fighting in Abyei suggests that the fragile Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) between North and South Sudan is at risk as well.

Mindful of this, we urgently call on you and your fellow leaders of G8 countries to issue a strong public statement on Sudan/Darfur at the Hokkaido Summit that -- at a minimum -- addresses the following five areas:

*An immediate cessation of the violence. The statement should strongly condemn the renewed violence in Darfur and call on all parties to adhere to previous ceasefire agreements. Likewise, the statement should condemn the recent fighting in Abyei and call on the Government of Sudan and Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army to adhere to the ceasefire agreed upon as part of the CPA.

*Halting the transfers of arms. The statement should condemn ongoing violations of the arms embargo articulated in U.N. Security Council Resolution 1591. It should urge all states to stop all arms transfers that go, directly or indirectly, to Darfur in violation of Resolution 1591.

*Deployment of UNAMID. The statement should offer specific assistance from G8 members to ensure that UNAMID has the technical assistance and equipment necessary to fully deploy as quickly as possible.

*A reinvigorated peace process in Darfur and a recommitment to the CPA. The statement also should lay out a specific plan for how G8 governments will support efforts to establish a sustainable peace in Darfur and the full implementation of the CPA.

*Justice and accountability for atrocities committed. The statement should support existing and future efforts to pursue accountability for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by all parties to the conflict in Darfur.

The Government of Sudan will be watching closely to see how the G8 reacts to the intensified violence in Darfur and the unraveling of the tenuous peace between the North and South. We urge the G8 to issue a strongly worded statement on Sudan/Darfur that clearly articulates the steps its members will take to help resolve the growing crisis. Anything less risks further emboldening the Government of Sudan.

Yours truly,

Signed by:
